Atmel Introduces Industry's First 1M 2-Wire Serial EEPROM Device

SAN JOSE Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2001--Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced today the introduction of a new 1M-bit device addition to its 2-wire serial-interface product line.

The AT24C1024 is the latest and largest capacity part of a family of devices that uses Atmel's advanced EEPROM technology which makes it possible to fit a 1M-bit EEPROM part in an 8 pin SOIC package. The AT24C1024 was developed and accepted as the next generation Serial EEPROM of choice for and by many mobile phone OEMs. This device will be used to store frequently dialed numbers, last numbers called, and other associated memory functions. Additional applications include pagers, set-top boxes, data bank watches, game cards, digital cameras, PDAs and other portable consumer applications.

``Offering a 1M-bit 2-wire Serial EEPROM device is another industry first from Atmel,'' said Bassam Khoury, Atmel's marketing director for the Serial Interface Product Line. ``This gives designers the highest degree of flexibility in migrating to higher densities without changing the PC board design,'' added Khoury.

The AT24C1024 provides data transfer rates up to 400kz, operates from 2.7V to 5.5V, guaranteed endurance of 100,000 write/erase cycles, and has data retention of greater than 40 years.

As the leader and the largest producer of Serial EEPROMs worldwide(1), Atmel today offers the widest product Portfolio of Serial EEPROMs in 2-wire, SPI and 3-wire protocols.

``Atmel's leading edge technology is key to the building of high density EEPROM products. The introduction of the AT24C1024 will further strengthen our position as a world leader in the market,'' concluded Khoury. The AT24C1024 is available now in volume production and offered in an 8-pin EIAJ SOIC, 8-pin PDIP, 5x8 mm LAP and dBGA packages. Prices start at $3.50 each in quantities of 10,000.
